lyrics

I was leaving Interlaken, and chose to bathe my weary head.
I was hungover, aching and drenched head to toe in sweat.
As I felt the glacial shower wrap it's hands around my chest, I made a vow to never let my feet begin to rest.

I was built to wander.
I was made to move.
I have lost myself on dusty plains and I never felt new.

I stumbled around Sumatra via bikes on cracked terrains.
The rain was fierce and endless and the trees like barricades.
The jungle guys and I would sing about life blowing like the breeze, while the monkeys that I had come to see kept stealing shit from me.

I was built to wander.
I was made to move.
I have lost myself on dusty plains and I never felt new.
I was built to wander.
I was left to choose.
Without no word, I kept on walking.
I had nothing to lose.

Dear Judith passed on not long before darkness cloaked the desert.
Our Dalmatian endeavoured but our tows were repeatedly severed.
We pooled our strength to pull that car 30 miles to the next town, when bright lights filled our jaded eyes and we kissed the sandy ground.

Well lately I've been idle, dodging questions of what's next.
Work is a means to an end and my career plans are in shreds.
My conscience crackles softly whilst the drives are stored away.
I dream of icy baths and yearn to leave this town today.

I was built to wander.
I was made to move.
I have lost myself on dusty plains and I never felt new.
I was built to wander.
I was left to choose.
Without no word, I kept on walking.
I had nothing to lose.

about

Jake Brooker London, UK

Inspired by artists across generations and good friends including Frankly Lost and Will Whisson, this is a solo project that represents something I have been waiting for the right time to do. That time is probably not now, but why wait any longer?

I am a modern day folk singer trying to bring "ridin' the rails" storytelling back.
